Best student neighbourhoods in Limerick: choosing your base
Limerick offers several distinct student areas, each with different strengths.
For those at the University of Limerick, Castletroy is the main student hub, with campus villages, private complexes and many shared houses within walking distance of lectures and the River Shannon. Groody Park and Newcastle sit between campus and the city, appealing to students who want both quick access to UL and reasonable journeys downtown.
If you prefer urban living, Limerick City Centre and riverside districts offer cafés, nightlife and cultural venues, with buses connecting to UL and other institutions in about 15-20 minutes. Residential areas like Dooradoyle, Raheen and Corbally provide quieter streets and family-oriented surroundings, often at competitive rents and with bus links into town and towards campuses.
Students at TUS sometimes choose neighbourhoods closer to its campus, such as Shannabooly and nearby western suburbs, to minimise daily travel. When comparing areas, think about your daily routes, budget, preferred atmosphere and proximity to essentials like supermarkets and bus stops.
